Programme

Facing many new challenges in the second phase of its work, EGEE’06 will engage an even broader audience than previous EGEE conferences, bringing together stakeholders from IT, industry, science, and funding agencies to explore synergies and share experiences. Geneva-based international organisations will also be present to learn how they can profit from this cutting edge technology.

The conference will feature prominent keynote speakers from the international research community, the European and local Government, and industry, as well as hosting an exhibition area highlighting Grid achievements in the research and industrial spheres.

Please find the detailed programme here.

Please find here the list of Projects present at the Conference.

Please find biographies of the invited speakers here.

Please find short biographies of the speakers in the Business Track here.

Industry Exhibition

For interested industry representatives, we offer the following:

  • sponsorship opportunities;
  • exhibition space to demonstrate your Grid application;
  • a platform to launch or promote your latest Grid product;
  • networking opportunities with EGEE and participants interested in the Grid;
  • a chance to take first steps to work with EGEE, explore technology transfer possibilities, and to strengthen existing relationships;
  • the latest information about the EGEE project and the tried and tested Grid technology that is already in daily use;
  • information about applications that have been successfully deployed on EGEE;
  • the opportunity to capitalise on the accumulated experience of EGEE and to discover future plans for commercialised Grid offerings.

- Applications

During the EGEE conference, EGEE will provide an important opportunity for all applications to establish contacts with EGEE and with other user communities, to plan for the future usage of the EGEE grid infrastructure, to learn about the latest advances, and to discuss the future evolution of Grid middleware.

Two parallel sessions: "Life Sciences " (responsible Vincent Breton) and "Grid Applications" (responsible Roberto Barbera) will give applications the opportunity to present their results , plans on using the EGEE infrastructure and share their experiences . EGEE applications, applications from related projects and possible new applications are invited to subscribe to these sessions by sending a short abstract.

We are interested in gather ing information on :
* the application context and scientific goals as well as relevant links to publications, project descriptions etc;
* The Grid added-value focusing in particular on sharing and collaborative aspects. This should include the scale of the problems and potential user community as well as the impact EGEE might have. It should also highlight the key Grid services needed for achieving these goals;
* Key issues to be addressed for the promotion of the use of G rid technology in the application area.

Please see the call for abstracts page.

- Demos and Posters

During the EGEE conference, EGEE will provide an important opportunity for all applications to present their activities and plans to the EGEE community. This session is organised by Massimo Lamanna. Based on the good experiences of the first EGEE User Forum, EGEE has decided to organise a large demonstration and poster session at the EGEE'06 Conference. The idea is that a full afternoon will be dedicated to show results, experience and plans in a open and somewhat informal way.

It would be very interesting to get more information from applications on the following points:

* The application context and scientific goals as well as relevant links to publications, project descriptions etc;
* The Grid added-value focusing in particular on sharing and collaborative aspects. This should include the scale of the problems and potential user community as well as the impact EGEE might have. It should also highlight the key Grid services needed for achieving these goals;
* Key issues to be addressed for the promotion of the use of G rid technology in the application area.

A good demo and poster should also demonstrate:

* Enlargement of application community: showing the Grid as a place to collaborate, join forces, compare results ;
* Cross - application synergies: how knowledge from one application community benefit s others ;
* Visual impact: while not all demos are visual, visual impact is a key factor for attracting new users.

The demo and poster session is coupled to a series of sessions organised to discuss specific technical issues, giving the possibility to applications to share and compare their experience and requirements with other applications and with G rid service providers. The programme for these sessions will be made available on July 14th.

EGEE applications, application from related projects and possible new applications are invited to subscribe to these sessions sending a short abstract.

Training before EGEE'06

Two training courses will be held at CERN immediately before the EGEE’06 conference:

* On Saturday September 23rd, an Application Developers course, for those intending to write or port applications to run using gLite 3.0 middleware. For more information on the agenda, please look here.
Register now!

* On Sunday September 24th, a “Training the Trainers” course, for those intending to give training courses during EGEE-II. Participants might be members of the NA3 activity, or might be members of partner projects or application communities associated with EGEE.
For more information on the agenda, please look here.
